Adult diapers and absorbent underwear are genuinely helpful for people managing bladder and/or bowel leaks, but today we’re going to encourage you to re-think incontinence pads and give them a try.
Incontinence pads are often overlooked, especially by men, with the belief that they’re just like feminine hygiene pads and they aren’t as absorbent as incontinence briefs and underwear. Both assumptions are incorrect and, in fact, pads can be superior in many cases.
Pads offer a wide range of absorbency and size including overnight, light day and heavy day (as pictured), so no matter what your needs, there's a product to help.
Reason 1: Better Fit
The most common cause of leaking in adult diapers and underwear isn’t absorbency; it’s fit. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and a product that fits snugly and securely for a rounder hip may not work for a narrow or flat figure.
Since pads are designed to only cover the area where you need protection from leaks, fit at the waist, hips and inner thighs isn’t an issue.
Reason 2: More Discreet
Continence underwear commercials focus on discretion and for good reason – no one wants others to know they’re wearing absorbent underwear or an adult brief!
But pads are worn with your regular underwear under your clothes, which ensures a superior fit and a slimmer profile, without the creasing, crinkling or bulk that sometimes shows through clothing, making them a more discreet option.
Reason 3: Easier to Change
Changing adult diapers or pull-up underwear can be a chore, especially if your mobility is impaired or you’re reliant on a caregiver or loved one to help. You have to remove your pants (and often your shoes as well) to remove the soiled item, then remain disrobed to put on a fresh product, then re-attire your pants.
Pads, however, only require that you pull your pants and underwear down, a task that can be completed while seated on the toilet. This means that you don’t have to worry about slip and fall accidents while disrobing, nor do you have to sit on a piece of furniture with your bare bottom while you change your adult diaper or absorbent underwear.
And, we have to point out that this is a (BIG) bonus if you have to change in a small bathroom while out to dinner or shopping.
Reason 4: More Affordable
Compared to absorbent underwear and adult diapers, incontinence pads can be up to 50% less expensive, but still provide the same level of absorbency and protection. This is simply because they are less complex to manufacture and require fewer materials like elastic threads (in the case of underwear) or sticky tabs (in the case of adult diapers).
If you’re on a fixed income or even if you simply want to reduce the amount you spend on continence care items each month, pads can be a very affordable option
Reason 5: Possibly Better for Your Skin
Many people report that adult diapers and absorbent underwear irritate their skin, particularly around the waist, AND particularly in the summer when the air is more humid. This is because many products aren’t breathable, and trap moisture against the skin.
But pads, which fit inside your regular underwear, are less likely to cause irritation because there’s less surface contact.
As always, of course, for optimal skin health be sure to change your pad as soon as possible when soiled and wear breathable cotton or cotton-blend underwear.
