Hydrocolloid dressings are biodegradable and breathable dressings that adhere to skin with no taping or binding required.

The  surface of the hydrocolloid dressing is coated with a film of gelatin, pectin and carboxymethyl cellulose along with other polymers and adhesives. When applied to a exuding or seeping sound, the film forms a gel which may drain or contain the exudence.

Usually, these dressings are used for uninfected wounds, unless otherwise recommended by your healthcare professional.
