ODSP Incontinence Supplies & Direct Pay - What You Need to Know
ODSP Beneficiaries across Ontario have been receiving letters the past few weeks, letting them know that funds for their incontinence supplies (along with surgical supplies and diabetic supplies) may no longer be added to their monthly income support payments.
Many Beneficiaries are being told that they must find a store or vendor who will bill ODSP directly, instead of having an additional amount added to their cheques or direct deposits. This is being referred to as "ODSP Pay Direct" - where the Beneficiary receives monthly supplies and the vendor invoices the local ODSP office for the amount.
This is both good and bad news.
The Good News
The new ODSP Pay Direct system allows more flexibility and lets you take advantage of superior service like discreet delivery.

No More Receipts/ No More Out of Pocket Expenses: Some caseworkers have historically only paid out on receipts, meaning that you had to pay out of pocket and then submit a receipt to get the funds on your next cheque. The Bad News
Not everyone is going to like the new Direct Pay program, though.
Reduced Payments: If you've been counting on increased support payments and re-directing some of your incontinence supply funds to other household expenses, you will feel the pinch of reduced support payments. Healthwick will only invoice ODSP with the actual cost of the product sent to you.
Approval Processing: Getting set up with Pay Direct with Healthwick isn't difficult, but it does take a little time (generally 3 to 5 days) to have your monthly supplies quote approved by your caseworker. Click here to see the simple 3 step process.
