Adaptive clothing is apparel that has been designed to make dressing easier for those with mobility issues and those with health issues that make getting dressed more difficult. There are different types of adaptive clothing that have been created to look like traditional clothing, while offering added benefit and comfort to the individual and their caretaker.
Open back tops are fastened using snaps at the shoulder. The back of the garment can fully open, allowing an individual to be dressed and undressed without having to raise their arms. The design of this adaptive top provides full coverage for the wearer and looks like a traditional top at first glance.

Open back tops are available in a wide variety of styles for both men and women. Open back tops come in long sleeves, short sleeves, polo shirts, blouses, and cardigans. Having a large selection of style options helps to ensure that there is something for everyone.
As the name suggests, open back pants are an adaptive garment that are open at the back. Open back pants are an ideal adaptive pant for those in wheelchairs and those who cannot bear weight or be restricted by traditional pants. This type of pants are great for caregivers as they allow an individual to be changed in a standing or laying position.
Open back pants are cut out at the back, but have generous sized modesty flaps to provide coverage. They’re fastened using 3 snaps at the back of the pants. These snaps allow for adjustment by approximately 1.5 to 2 inches.

What is the difference between open backed and seatless pants? This is a question we are often asked by our Geri Fashions customers. The answer is very simple: there is no real difference between open backed and seatless pants.
Certain manufacturers of adaptive clothing refer to this style of adaptive pant differently, which is why we have products listed as both open back and seatless on our website. The design and functionality of these adaptive pants are the same; they both are cut out at the back with modesty flaps, and are done up using snaps.
Open backed pants are available in Gabardine, Mélange, Cozy Knit, Denim Look, and Twill materials. Please note that material content differs by manufacturer. If you would like to know the material content of a particular item on our website, please reach out to our customer care team for assistance.

Like the rest of the adaptive clothing we carry, our adaptive tops are made from materials that are very durable. These garments were designed with long term care and retirement homes in mind, so they are safe to be washed and dried in facility laundry machines.
These adaptive garments are commonly made of polyester and acrylic. Some clothing items may also include hints of cotton, spandex or rayon for comfort and fit. If you would like information about the material that a specific item is made from, please get in touch with our customer care team. Please note that material content differs between manufacturers.
As with all adaptive clothing, selecting the right shirt size is very important for both comfort and functionality. To ensure you’re choosing the right size, please review our Geri Fashions Sizing Guide. You need the individual’s measurements when determining which size you will need. For men, you’ll need the chest and neck measurements. For women you’ll need the bust measurement. You may find that having the individual’s waist and/or hip measurements will be helpful for selecting a size.
